Venice Film Festival 2019, all spotlights on Caffè Aiello
After the Berlinale and the Cannes Film Festival, the credits of another international cultural event are scrolling, the Venice Film Festival 2019 which ended a few days ago. As in the previous International Cinematographic Art Exhibition and those of the last few years, the 76th edition also hosted the coffee of Italian cinema, always playing a supporting role in the promotion of fine Italian products, even in the world of the Seventh Art.
The Italian Pavilion in Venice
From 28 August to 7 September, Caffè Aiello was one of the most important exclusive brands in the Italian Pavilion, the space created by Istituto Luce Cinecittà in the Hotel Excelsior in Venice.
During the event, the pavilion hosted award ceremonies, press conferences and many other activities and the taste of real Italian espresso tantalised the taste buds of actors, directors, VIPs, trade journalists and cinema lovers alike.
Winners of the 76th Venice Film Festival
The winner of the coveted Golden Lion and the real winner of the Venice Film Festival 2019 was “Joker” by Todd Philips, a film inspired by the famous comic book character, portrayed here from an authentic, human perspective thanks to Joaquin Phoenix’s masterful interpretation.
We are pleased to confirm that the Festival also celebrated Italian cinema, with Franco Maresco winning recognition for “La mafia non è più quella di una volta” (Mafia is not what it used to be) and above all Luca Marinelli winning the Volpi Cup for best actor. The Roman actor played sailor Martin Eden in the adaptation of Jack London’s novel, dedicating his win “to all those in the sea who save people running away from unimaginable situations”.

- Golden Lion for best film: “Joker” by Todd Philips.
- Silver Lion for best director: Roy Anderson for the film “About Endlessness”.
- Grand Jury Prize: “J’accuse” by Roman Polanski.
- Volpi Cup for best actor: Luca Marinelli for the film “Martin Eden”.
- Volpi Cup for best actress: Ariane Ascaride for the film “Gloria Mundi”.
- Special Jury Prize: “La mafia non è più quella di una volta” by Franco Maresco.
- Best screenplay: “No. 7 Cherry Lane” by Ji Yuan Tai Qi Hao.
