Caffè Aiello at the 2019 Berlinale: the sky above Berlin is light blue

Berlinale 2019, the 69th edition of the traditional international film festival in Berlin has just closed its gates, with the Italian film industry leaving on a high.

The Silver Bear for best screenplay, awarded to “La paranza dei bambini” by Claudio Giovannesi is a triumph that we were able to experience first-hand, inside the Italian Pavilion set up in the European Film Market.

The participation of Caffè Aiello in the Festival is fruit of its partnership with Istituto Luce Cinecittà, designed to support Italian film and help introduce the whole world to the art of making a true Italian espresso.

Berlinale 2019: the tribute to Bruno Ganz and the award ceremony

The award ceremony of Berlinale 2019 opened with an emotional tribute to Bruno Ganz, the wonderful actor who played the part of the angel Damiel in “Wings of Desire” by Wim Wenders and passed away on the same day as the festival’s closing ceremony. The farewell to the Swiss actor was followed by a standing ovation for Dieter Kosslick, the outgoing director.

During the award ceremony, the international judging panel, chaired by actress Juliette Binoche, presented the coveted Golden Bear for best film to “Synonymes” by Israeli Nadav Lapid, a film focusing on the difficult integration of an Israeli boy in Paris.

Italian cinema triumphs in Berlin

A crystal clear blue sky over an unusually sunny Berlin: a splendid backdrop to host the Silver Bear awarded to the Italian film (the only one in the running), adapted from a novel by Roberto Saviano, who co-wrote the screenplay with Maurizio Braucci and Claudio Giovannesi.

Inspired by true life events, “La paranza dei bambini” is a story about a group of very young people that finds itself filling a power gap in the harsh world of crime in Naples.
